Amiens Zoo covers 7 hectares and is home to more than 700 animals. It raises public awareness of biodiversity while offering an enriching experience through its natural habitats and scientific commitment.
The preservation of biodiversity is a key mission of 19th century zoos. Amiens Zoo is very involved in conservation projects. As a permanent member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA), it participates in some thirty breeding plans for endangered species such as red pandas, lion tamarins, Addax, etc. "The association has three commitments: to raise public awareness, to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge, and to participate in conservation programs for endangered species. As a permanent member of the EAZA, Amiens Zoo is very involved in conservation projects. It participates in about thirty breeding of endangered species such as the red panda, the Sumatran tiger, the addax antelope... (no capital letter to addax), some of which can be reintroduced to strengthen the wild populations. " Located on the esplanade of the Hotoie, the 7 ha of the zoological park are home to about 700 representatives of 120 species among the most threatened on the planet. Thus, in a green setting just a stone's throw from the town centre, zebras, penguins, sea lions and many other animals can be seen during the 3-hour visit. Since the end of the 19th century, the Blue Pavilion has been offering a well-deserved break to visitors to the park, in the rural setting of one of the last guinguettes in Amiens built on the water's edge.
